Shower Booth
If it’s something that brings benefits and happiness every single day, I tend not to skimp on money for it. Housing, mattress, car, … Not overly extravagant, but enough to feel a quiet, subtle happiness. Because I believe that small emotions accumulate over time and eventually bring about big changes in behavior.
On the other hand, the thing I worried about most before moving into my current place was the absence of a shower booth. Having always lived with family, the place where I washed up always had a shower booth. In terms of washing, I can say I lived in a very comfortable environment for over ten years.
Now that I live alone, the new place I moved into is small in size, so there’s no shower booth. Instead, in the cramped bathroom, the sink and the shower share a single faucet. I worried that taking a shower would soak the floor and dirty the bathroom, leading to a repeated bad experience.
Having actually lived here for about a month and a half, it doesn’t seem to be entirely like that. It’s an inconvenience you can get used to and grow indifferent to.
This morning, while showering, a thought suddenly crossed my mind. Rather than trying to find happiness in everything, wouldn’t it be better to save up those opportunities and occasionally find special happiness instead? Indifferent inconveniences are quickly forgotten, but intense novelty and happiness are remembered for a long time.
