Robot Vacuum Cleaner
It’s been over a year since I started living on my own. I’m not the type to be obsessive about cleanliness, but I do like things to be tidy and organized. When even a little dust builds up on the floor, I can feel it right away on the soles of my feet, and it’s not a great feeling. My respiratory system isn’t the best either, so when dust piles up, I sometimes end up coughing.
Before, I used to vacuum diligently and mop the floors by hand. I’d tell myself, “Just spend 5 or 10 minutes every day and it’ll be fine…” and clean with that mindset.
On weekdays, work kept me busy, so there were days I just couldn’t manage to clean. I usually head to work between 8 and 9 a.m., pour all my energy into the company, and leave around 11 p.m., so there was hardly any time left for cleaning. Still, my body craved a tidy, clean environment. Sneezing in the morning, I desperately wished the place were clean.
After mulling it over for about a week, I brought in a robot vacuum cleaner. It took a lot of resolve just to buy it. I couldn’t shake the thought, “What does a small 12-pyeong home need a robot vacuum for?” But thanks to the idea that in my twenties I should go through plenty of experiences of spending money and sometimes failing, I was able to finally make the purchase decision.
Once I actually bought the robot vacuum, it was so good that I wondered why I hadn’t bought one sooner. Since it cleans every single day, my physical condition has improved. In some ways it even cleans better than I do—it slips right into hard-to-reach spots like under the bed or under the sofa, handling both vacuuming and mopping. It goes beyond just saving me daily cleaning time; I’ve come to actually enjoy the shiny, polished floors.
It makes me want to automate a large part of my work in the same way. There’s a tremendous sense of liberation in having something handle the routine tasks I used to do every day—doing them more meticulously and better than I could—while saving me time. I’d like to think about whether I can create tools like this robot vacuum for my work at the company too.
