How to Easily Put a Cover on a Duvet
Roll-Invert-Unroll: an effortless way to change your duvet cover. You can find detailed instructions through this YouTube video or this article.
Here’s a brief summary of the process:
- Lay the duvet cover inside-out and spread it flat on the bed.
- Place the duvet insert on top, aligning the edges, then tie the corners together.
- Roll everything up tightly into a log shape, like a kimbap roll.
- (The tricky part) At one end, you’ll find the opening where the duvet insert normally goes in. Open it up and completely invert the roll through it. (I recommend watching the 1-minute 16-second mark of this video.)
- Unroll the duvet and spread it back out flat.
Once you get the hang of it, you can get a beautifully covered duvet in just five minutes!
I use a 200cm × 230cm duvet cover and insert, and the most annoying part had always been stuffing the insert back in after washing everything.
For one thing, the duvet cover and insert are rectangular rather than square, so you have to carefully match up the short and long sides. But since the difference in length isn’t all that obvious, it’s surprisingly hard to get right.
Getting the insert to sit evenly inside the cover was also harder than expected. With such a large duvet, you have to reach all the way inside to adjust things properly — it was exhausting enough to work up a serious sweat every single time.
Ever since I discovered the Roll-Invert-Unroll method, putting the duvet cover on has become a breeze. It’s also just fun to watch the cover appear as if by magic.
