Cursor IDE
Going beyond GitHub Copilot, this is an IDE designed to let you use LLM models like GPT-4o and Claude seamlessly while coding. Because you can leverage AI at any moment, the productivity difference is so significant that I expect to use it as my primary IDE for the foreseeable future.
- Since it is based on VSCode, anyone who has used VSCode can use the exact same shortcuts and extensions without any changes.
- Minor runtimes like Deno are often best supported in VSCode, so being able to have that identical experience is a major advantage.
- Extensions and settings can be imported from your existing VSCode installation in a single click. The time needed to adapt to a different editor from the one you were already using is essentially zero.
- You can truly pair-program with AI. With a single shortcut you can auto-generate code while coding, and to ask GPT about a specific code snippet or error message, all you need to do is highlight it and press the “Ask” button.
- In June 2024, I migrated the wiki homepage to be based on Deno’s Fresh + TailwindCSS — an unfamiliar tech stack — and being able to ask the AI how to use each technology was incredibly handy.
