My first triathlon podium finish. Swimming, cycling, and running all improved a lot over the winter. Both the swim and the bike went according to plan, and although the run was brutal in the blazing sun, I pushed hard and kept picking up the pace all the way to the finish.
I ended up in 2nd place by just 3 seconds. Throughout the race I hadn’t spotted anyone near my age group, so I thought I might have taken 1st — but it turned out that, since times are calculated on a net-time basis, the person ahead of me had started later than I did.
It’s a shame I lost more than 3 minutes in transition struggling to take off my wetsuit. For next year’s race, I want to practice wetsuit removal more, improve my overall time, and aim for 1st place.
